The Request
Reduce workplace injuries and workers’ compensation costs.
Company Profile
Industry: Manufacturing
After working with Brown & Brown on other projects, the CEO and Human Resources Officer of a manufacturing company turned to Brown & Brown for additional ways to help reduce workplace injuries and workers’ compensation costs.
The Solution
Conducted a mock OSHA inspection to prompt improvements in safety and performance.
Brown & Brown chose a straightforward approach to the request and conducted a 2.5-hour mock OSHA inspection exercise to review the manufacturing plant. During this short inspection, the team identified five serious, two non-serious and three de minimis violations that the Brown & Brown team valued at $31,000 in fines.
This simple exercise allowed top management to gain a fresh perspective and prompted them to begin improving their safety and performance.
The Results
Workers’ compensation experience modification rate (EMR) decreased from 1.51 in Year Two to 0.67 in Year Six.
These additions to the customer’s safety culture resulted in the workers’ compensation experience modification rate (EMR) decreasing from 1.51 in Year Two to 0.67 in Year Six. The customer successfully dropped its EMR below the benchmark of 1.0, which positioned the manufacturing company for more favorable workers’ compensation premiums and helped demonstrate each safety project’s effectiveness.
