Your Questions, Answered
If you have anyone working on your behalf on a project you have been contracted on, then you need employer’s liability insurance. In the UK, it is a legal requirement if you employ anyone, including permanent staff, apprentices, part-time workers, and temporary labour-only sub-contractors. Employers’ liability (EL) insurance helps protect your business against compensation claims if an employee is injured or falls ill while working for you. In addition, you may be at risk of a fine if you do not have appropriate insurance in place.
Whilst this is not a legal requirement, many businesses and projects require you to have public liability insurance before awarding any contracts. The limit you need will depend on the size of works that are being undertaken, with larger projects requiring a higher indemnity limit. Public liability provides cover for accidental injury or property damage claims, made by third parties such as clients, contractors or the general public.
It is possible to reduce your public liability limit, but it is important to take into consideration prior works, as claims can be made against your works in the future. Generally it is not advisable to reduce your public liability limit, as you may be personally liable for any excess amounts.
We understand the needs of Roofers and your business and are pleased to offer a product which is designed to reduce some common restrictions and covenants often found within standard tradesperson policies. This Roofer’s insurance cover can be arranged without standard height restrictions and can include extensions for areas such as defective workmanship and pure financial loss which may be excluded or more limited under standard Public Liability policies, particularly where no damage has occurred.
We know that when undertaking roofing works, all sorts of challenges can occur. This policy can provide cover to include works to remove non-licensed, non-notifiable asbestos.
All policies are subject to insurer terms, conditions and underwriting acceptance.
